By means of a video installation, the legendary production Dance by Lucinda Childs was given a prominent place at the exhibition “Danser sa vie (art et danse de 1900 à nos jours)”, which ran at the Centre Pompidou early this year. The American choreographer had, of course, written history with her minimalistic masterpiece, set to a score by Philip Glass, in 1979. More than thirty years later, the power of the choreography’s expression is surprisingly intact; a combination of mathematical precision, poetic simplicity, and a defiant atmosphere.

In what part of the world and in what time is Dead Man Talking set? The prison guard seems to live in New Orleans. The governor is straight out of a 1950s ad. Everyone speaks French, but the death penalty is the most normal thing in the world. Stay away from the film if you’re looking for authenticity and credibility, but go and join the queue if you can appreciate a modern fairy tale.

El Gusto has at least two things in common with Buena Vista Social Club. It is a documentary, and it allows you to discover beautiful music. The story behind El Gusto is even slightly more striking than Ry Cooder saving authentic Cuban musicians from obscurity because it involves (even) more politics, history, and religion.

Oliver Stone hasn’t completely forgotten how to make films. Savages is made up of a number of wild, over-the-top action scenes that entertained us more than The Expendables 1 & 2 combined. But that didn’t lessen our disappointment.

Since we always knew that underneath his six pack disguise Matthew McConaughey was a mean killer (and no, we're not jealous!); that Aaron Eckhart would be able to change a spy thriller set in Brussels into a hilarious trip through Blooperville; that Alain Resnais is a giant; that girls always fall for the new guy; and that fishermen can bend it like Beckham. Enjoy!

Het stond al eens in AGENDA maar zo’n goed nieuws verdient herhaling. Jekino, een organisatie die ijvert voor een kinderfilmcultuur, kreeg haar doorgaans uitstekende kinder- en jeugdfilms de voorbije jaren niet verkocht aan de Brusselse bioscopen. Aan die nare periode is een einde gekomen dankzij een samenwerking met Galeries, de bioscoop in de Koninginnegalerij. Met Superechte liefde staat er meteen een uitstekende Noorse film over de liefde op het programma.
