De l’art sur les murs, dans de grands livres, sur quatre roues dans le show-room attenant rempli de voitures de luxe reluisantes et l’art culinaire créatif d’un jeune chef, voilà quelques formes d’art dont on peut profiter chez Enjoy Art.

Un bruit sourd et rythmé résonne à travers la D+T Project Gallery. Il est causé par un mannequin représentant un jeune garçon qui frappe régulièrement sa tête contre le mur. Celui-ci a déjà été partiellement creusé par son agitation. Le garçon porte un sweat à capuche et semble être le prototype de l’enfant ingérable. Revolution, voilà le titre approprié de l’œuvre.

Sinds afgelopen zomer vind je in de buurt van de Zavel een heuse concept store voor kinderen. Bij Pépin La Lune kunnen klein en groot terecht voor kleding, meubels, speelgoed en decoratiespullen om een kinderkamer op te vrolijken.

A new name, a new CD, and a number of (guest) musicians. The Brussels-based jazz collective Mâäk has reinvented itself yet again. Buenaventura is an excellent re-energizer.

Photographer Lisette Model (1901-1983) has been somewhat overshadowed by her famous students Diane Arbus, Bruce Weber, and Larry Fink. But she was and still is a role model, both as a teacher and a photographer. Her pupil Diane Arbus’s photos reveal clear traces of Model’s influence.

Because snow is really beautiful, including on the big screen. Because the red of a drop of blood contrasts so dramatically with the white of the snow. Because steaming breath can be very expressive. There are numerous good reasons to set a dark thriller in a winter landscape. But nobody watches a thriller for the scenery alone. Deadfall isn’t terrible, but there are so many better films out there that I don’t know why you would pick this American movie by Stefan Ruzowitzky.

Music documentaries can be really boring. Some drummer’s drug problems are really not all that interesting. Conflicts between the singer and guitarist can’t sustain our attention for all too long either. Searching for Sugar Man, on the other hand, is gripping from beginning to end.

I wasn’t losing sleep over the canonization of Abraham Lincoln, the illustrious sixteenth president of the United States of America. But fortunately, that’s not what Lincoln does. This excellent historical and political drama focuses on his four last, tumultuous months.

Peter van Kraaij is sinds 2007 vaste dramaturg bij Toneelgroep Amsterdam van Ivo van Hove. Voordien had Van Kraaij als theater- en filmmaker een vaste stek in Brussel en werkte hij onder meer voor het Kaaitheater, De Tijd, Het Zuidelijk Toneel en Walpurgis. Zijn eerste roman, de uitgepuurde kleine tragedie Wat rest, speelt zich grotendeels in Brussel af.

Op 28 januari is het wereldprivacydag. Tegenwoordig is het elke dag wel een dag van iets, maar privacy is een thema dat de komende jaren wellicht alleen aan belang zal toenemen. De VUB organiseert al een poos jaarlijks de internationale conferentie ‘Computers, privacy & data protection’ (www.cpdpconferences.org), waar academici, beleidsmakers, juristen en andere professionals debatteren over informatietechnologie, privacy en gegevensbescherming – dit jaar van 23 tot 25 januari in De Hallen van Schaarbeek. De VUB is samen met deBuren, de Brusselse artiestenverenigingen Restart en SMartBe ook een van de organisatoren van de tentoonstelling A look inside in De Markten.
